Howland Studios Africa Kitchen Project

by April Howland

Keeping the momentum going…

Upon returning from my trip to Lilydale, South Africa in 2018 and seeing the change that a bit of fundraising can make, I decided to do it again. But this time, I was going to go BIG!

The Howland Studios Kitchen Project was developed in an effort to raise funds for the development of kitchens in the schools of communities in rural areas of Africa with the assistance of Africa Foundation (USA).

As a part of this effort, I created a brand new painting to auction off to raise funds. This painting called Jubilation was inspired by the children and wildlife that I met over my last two visits to South Africa.

But I didn’t stop there. I wanted to go even bigger. So I decided to put together a fundraiser… No, a gala! With a local celebrity chef Eddie Matney preparing the food and comedian Jill Kimmel as the Emcee.

And instead of just auctioning off one painting, decided to invite other local artists to also contribute some of their work to the silent auction.

The evening was a huge success! We raised over $40,000!! Not just enough for one kitchen… but 2 of them!

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all of the love and support that my friends, family, collectors and supporters have given me throughout this journey. I couldn’t have done it without you!

I am thrilled to report that Africa Foundation (USA) and broken ground on one of the kitchens that is being built in South Africa. Below is the old makeshift kitchen facility and the start of construction on the new one.

The second kitchen will be built in a small remote Maasai tribe village in the Mara Triangle area of Kenya, Africa. I am super excited to announce that YOU can join Adventure Artists International when we visit there to see the completed kitchen during the Great Migration in September, 2020!
